Brand New Year

Returning back to Sudan, we really had to do some major planning. It's really hard to figure out what "gourmet goods" are going to make it into your pack. This year we had a better idea of what we could and couldn't get here in Khartoum. Generally, less clothes and more food was our answer.

Even though I never would eat some of these if I were living in the States, it's amazing how comforting some of these home brands can be mid-year! Betty Crocker, Twizzlers, Goya, Pop-Tarts, Goldfish, Honey Bunches of Oats, Bisquik and Oscar Mayer!

We also were a little clever this year. Mac & cheese, well-known comfort food it is, seems to be a waste to carry boxes of this when there's tons of pasta everywhere. We were just missing the cheese. Voila! Rachel's brilliant idea fueled an internet search and within seconds realized that we could buy a pound of organic white cheddar cheese powder for only $10! Score!

Other cosmetic items are here, including my brand new hand-held sewing machine! You can never be too crafty!
