Our absentee ballots have yet to show up, despite having ordered them back in August! So, we now have to quickly do a write in and send it in ASAP back home. Hopefully the diplomatic pouch will get it there in time to actually be counted! (That's counting on a lot of factors actually working.)
It was amazing how interested the people are here in the election. While we were in Ethiopia, everyone wanted to talk about it...they were delighted to hear we supported Obama. One person even dubbed Rachel "Obama" since she's tall. (We couldn't quite figure that one out!)
Even in Lalibela the mania has struck! As "the 2nd Jerusalem" with killer hills and no transportation except mules and our little feet, Lalibela had only a few drop-offs everyday. I'm proud to report that painted on the back of one of those trucks was painted "O-B-A-M-A".
While there were rumors of a Barack T-shirt in Americ, we never found it; however there were quite a few bootleg copies of his books running around Addis. While infringing on some copyright laws, I suppose this can't be a bad thing! (That's Marissa with the local pirate. Being a law abiding citizen she decided to invest in a pocket constitution of Ethiopia! Hurray!)As some of you may know, a very good friend of mine decided to postpone her PhD to work on the heading up Obama's campaign in North Carolina, a hotly contested state! I've seen some reports of the great headway and am extremely proud of the work she's done there! Jess, keep up the good work!
