This weekend was the 7th grade field trip up to the pyramids in Meroe. These are the remnants of the Kush Empire. (Read more with the link above.)
So, we had quite the blast on fake excavation tour with archaeologists in training. I even made training packets and Field Journals, which they diligently recorded & sketched the artifacts they saw along the way. The scavenger hunt in and around the pyramids was quite a hit in the heat!We showed them how to pitch tents, build a fire, make s'mores, pop a squat in the desert and even how to haggle with the camel merchants.
(Needless to say, they are not used to such primitive accommodations.)The sand dunes have the consistency of snow...of course not quite as cold! One kid lost his shoe and never found it, despite a long time digging!
Camel-riding was quite a hit! I even got a marriage proposal from this guy. Aren't we a cute couple?

Errr...more of an archaeological adventure. No digging, except for said lost shoe!
